Get started
Ministry of Justice (MOJ) staff with a Microsoft account have automatic access to the Justice Data Platform for analysing, processing and transforming data. If you work for an executive agency or non-departmental public body of the MOJ, you might not have access.
Before you log in, make sure you’ve checked:
- you have the required skills and knowledge
- you understand your responsibilities as a user
- you understand fair usage and cost allocations
Required skills and knowledge
The first version of the Justice Data Platform is designed for data professionals with a minimum level of technical skill. We do not offer support or training on general usage of the tools we offer, so you’ll need to be comfortable getting help from external documentation or the relevant Ministry of Justice community. For example, you can contact the Data Engineering community on the #ask-data-engineering Slack channel.
You should be comfortable with:
- using API keys
- using at least one IDE and coding language
- debugging your own code
Your responsibilities as a user
You must follow all relevant Ministry of Justice policies when using the Justice Data Platform. This includes, but is not limited to, policies covering:
- fair usage for the service’s AI gateway (SharePoint link)
- cyber security
- transferring and processing data
- storing and retaining data
The Justice Data Platform does not have a data protection impact assessment (DPIA) for the service, as a DPIA needs to assess specific use cases and the way personal data is used. If you’re using personal data in ways that could cause harm, you must make sure a DPIA has been completed for your use case. Contact the Data Protection Team if you need help.
Fair usage and cost allocations
The Justice Data Platform serves the organisation, so we’ll have data and cost limitations in place to make sure the service remains available to everyone. We monitor cost and usage by business unit, which the project owner selects when creating a project.
The default limits for AI model usage per business unit are:
- 500 US dollars per month
- 100 requests per minute
- 500,000 tokens per minute
If you need to increase the default, you can request an increase to your AI usage limits .
